This is a story about an autistic 15 year old Christopher, who goes to a special school and is more intelligent than most people in logic, mathematics and physics. He knows very well that he is not like the other children, but he also knows something who his mates don’t know and he is very proud of that. He is scanning every details and are using the methodes teached him at school. The problem is that all the informations and crowds makes him confused and scared. This is not only a crime story, but as well a story about the mind of an autistic which is quite different from ours. Ordinary daily activities are not so easy to tackle for him. One day he finds the neighbours dog stabbed by a pitchfork and dead lying in Mrs. Shears garden. After a collapse he decides to start his private investigation, although his father want to keep him away from this.
In his surch for the murderer of Wellington, the pet poodle, he discoveres some hidden mysteries. Christopher hopes that by writing this book about the death of Wellington, he will be able to emulate his idol, Sherlock Holmes, about whom Watson says, “His mind...was busy in endeavouring to frame some scheme into which all these strange and apparently disconnected episodes could be fitted”.
And he do find the killer, uncovering many secrets about his parents, things turn upside down in his life and he even manage to do a lot of unexpected things by himself.
This remarkable book shows that Hadden has succeeded with using a simple language to express a complex mind. At the same time easily to read and thrilling, very exciting! A little bit sad, full of unthinkable knowledge and humour. Don’t hesitate!
